In an exhilarating development, Alicia Keys‘ lauded musical, Hell’s Kitchen, is poised to make its Broadway debut in the spring of 2024. The 15-time Grammy-winning artist, drawing inspiration from her upbringing in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, announced that the musical will grace the historic Shubert Theatre starting March 28, 2024, with an official opening night scheduled for April 20.
The announcement took place during a recent benefit concert at The Public Theater, where Hell’s Kitchen”is currently captivating audiences until January 14, 2024.

Alicia Keys expressed her excitement about the Broadway transfer at the event, stating, “I am here to tell y’all tonight that we are beyond ecstatic that Hell’s Kitchen is transferring to Broadway. This is crazy because there’s so much love for theater inside of all of us here. And to be able to be a part of creating beautiful, diverse stories about unique perspectives, and to be able to be in the hometown of New York City, talking about a New York City show… I’m really excited.”
The narrative of Hell’s Kitchen unfolds through the lens of a coming-of-age musical, depicting a teenage girl named Ali, eager to pursue her dreams in New York. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, directed by Michael Greif, and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, the musical promises a captivating exploration of race, defiance, and the challenges of growing up.
In an exclusive interview with Playbill, Alicia Keys shared insights into the prolonged development of the musical, stating, “The inspiration has been in existence for over 10 years, which is just crazy to me. I wanted to be able to tell a story about a girl really finding herself, her path. And ultimately, it being a love story between a mother and a daughter. And to be able to create the stories that we don’t actually get to see, you know, the very real-life stories that just aren’t often told.”
Alicia Keys’ foray into Broadway follows her recent sold-out show at Webster Hall, where she commemorated the 20th anniversary of her second album, “The Diary of Alicia Keys.” Coinciding with the celebration, Keys released “The Diary of Alicia Keys 20,” a deluxe edition featuring nine bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased song “Golden Child.”
