Emerging Belfast rapper Jordan Adetunji has enlisted Kehlani for an official remix of his viral song, named after the R&B sensation herself. The remix showcases both artists’ talents and highlights Adetunji’s unique sound with Kehlani’s signature style.
Set to a brisk, stomping beat produced by Li and Villa Beatz, Adetunji pays tribute to a woman who confidently stands in her power. “I like the way your body is / Is that too obvious? / Okay, I like your confidence / Oh, that’s what good karma is, okay / Like, like Kehlani is / Bad just like Kehlani is,” Adetunji rap-sings in the catchy hook. Kehlani shows off their rapid-fire singing skills in the second verse: “I like a b*h that match my energy, act like she into me / Tell the world you mine and you not what these b**es been to me / It’s plenty of fishes in the sea, I need me the biggest freak.”
Speaking about his new collaboration, Jordan Adetunji says, “Working with Kehlani has been a great experience because I’ve been able to see her process, how she sings, how she places things, and how she says her words. Even just her translating what I said on my song to her verse was just amazing; it was seamless.”
Adetunji released the original version of “Kehlani” on June 24. “Making a song about Kehlani was a no-brainer to me; her confidence and huge cultural impact is something I love! I love confidence. Especially when people do things that put themselves out there, doing things out of the norm and showing huge ambition,” he explained.
He continued, “When I made the track in my room, I posted the snippet, and when I saw the hype, I recorded a new verse and dropped it everywhere within two days! It made so much sense for me to get this song out ASAP.” “Kehlani” was the first song Adetunji released since announcing his deal with 300 Entertainment. “Partnering with 300 was a decision on people and actions for me,” said Adetunji. “When meeting Kevin Liles, we talked a lot about the meaning of artist development, and it felt like a great home to continue our global journey!”
Kevin Liles, CEO of 300 Entertainment, shared, “Jordan is a generational talent whose music transcends genres. 300 is built on recognizing an artist’s authentic self and empowering them to share their gifts with the world. We are proud to partner with Jordan’s management team and our incredible UK Warner Records family in this artistic journey.”
In June, Kehlani released their fourth album, ‘Crash‘, via Atlantic Records. The project debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. ‘Crash’ was preceded by the singles “After Hours” and “Next 2 U.” The album includes features from Jill Scott, Young Miko, and Omah Lay.
On Sept. 4, Kehlani will kick off the North American leg of their Crash World Tour in Minneapolis. Rising R&B group FLO and emerging singer Anycia will join Kehlani as special guests.
Additionally, Kehlani has teased that their new mixtape, While We Wait 2, is coming soon.
