Released on December 8 via P Music Group, “Superman” serves as Wilson’s first official single of the year. The track follows the success of his previous hit, “No Stoppin’ Us,” featuring Babyface, K-Ci Hailey, and Johnny Gill, which spent three weeks at the top of the Adult R&B Airplay chart in 2022.
“Superman” carries a deeply personal touch for Wilson, reflecting on the love he has for his wife and the transformative moments that reshaped his life. The song narrates Wilson’s journey from struggling with homelessness and addiction after The Gap Band’s success to finding love and support through rehab, where he met his future wife.
Wilson expressed, “This song is also for all women, their strength, love, and support is appreciated more than they know.”
Michael Paran, CEO of Parandise / P Music Group, added, “This song is an ode to how a woman’s love can see the inner good and strength of a man, even at their lowest point and support them to become their best Superman.”
As part of his 2024 campaign, Wilson hints at the possibility of releasing his first album since 2017’s “In It to Win It,” although no details regarding the title or release date have been announced.
Before the year concludes, Wilson will treat fans to performances in Atlanta and Detroit on December 30 and December 31, respectively. These shows will set the stage for more performances in the winter and spring of the following year.
Additionally, Wilson will receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his 71st birthday, January 29, as part of the class of 2023.
