R&B legend Mary J. Blige is marking her birthday (Jan. 11) in style, releasing a vibrant new video for her track “Gone Forever,” featuring the talents of Remy Ma and DJ Khaled.
The anthem “Gone Forever” presents a strong, assertive message from Blige, as she declares her refusal to tolerate any lover playing games with her emotions. The lyrics resonate with empowering energy: “‘Cause when a good girl’s gone / She’s gone forever / Now you gotta deal with the fact you did me wrong forever,” Blige passionately croons.
Set in a lively club atmosphere, the video showcases Blige in an array of dazzling outfits, celebrating with friends as they indulge in her Sun Goddess wine. Remy Ma and DJ Khaled also make notable appearances, adding their unique flair to the visual.
This latest release is a standout track from Blige’s Grammy-nominated album, Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe), which debuted on May 6, 2022. It marks the first video from the album since the release of “Come See About Me” featuring Fabolous in June 2022.
In October 2023, Blige delighted fans with “Still Believe in Love,” a standalone single featuring rapper Vado. Accompanied by a summery video shot in Italy, the track samples Mtume and has been enjoying a successful run, currently holding the No. 1 spot for a third week on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. This marks Blige’s longest-running No. 1 on this chart since 2017’s “U + Me (Love Lesson)” from Strength of a Woman.
Adding to her list of accolades, Blige is set to receive the Entertainment Icon Award at the 2024 Urban One Honors later this month. Michelle L. Rice, president of TV One and CLEO TV, praised Blige’s influential career, noting her significant impact on R&B and Hip Hop, and her role in elevating female artists across generations.
The Urban One Honors is set to air on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 8 p.m. on TV One.
