Never bet against James Cameron is a cliche since the director of blockbusters like Aliens, The Terminator, Titanic, and Avatar frequently achieves box office success. Words are being devoured by the bowlful right now, despite the fact that his planned series of big-blue-alien sequels have been met with skepticism across the internet for the better part of a decade.
It’s been obvious for some time that the late follow-up Avatar: The Way Of Water is another Cameron smash, consistently drawing in sizable audiences. Another milestone has been reached: the movie’s worldwide box office has now surpassed the $2 billion mark. Its Payakan-sized effects are still being felt today.
The Way Of Water is the sixth movie to ever gross over $2 billion worldwide, and of those six, three of them (Avatar, still the all-time #1 after recovering the record from Avengers: Endgame, and Titanic at #3) are directed by James Cameron. The Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens will be the next movies The Way Of Water will target if it continues to move in the same path.
Will it surpass those significant Star Wars and Marvel entries? Cameron’s Titanic: Can he sink it? Will people ever stop saying that there won’t be any Avatar sequels? And will Avatar 3 be able to achieve the same success? Stay tuned, but it’s important to remember that James Cameron is a safe bet.
