Khalid’s latest song, “Satellite,” is about a specific someone to whom he is totally devoted. The El Paso, Texas, native sings about a certain person he can’t stop thinking about while gliding on nylon-string guitar strokes and accompanied by spaghetti-western whistles and drums. Levi Turner’s companion video for “Satellite” is released. It observes Khalid in miniature in a multiverse setting. He performs the song with the help of dancers.

Speaking on the new single, Khalid says, 

“‘Satellite’ is a visual portrait of my growth as a human being & the self-love journey I have experienced in my life.”

Since the April 29 release of “Skyline,” Khalid’s most recent song is his first to be released alone. His third studio album, which has been teased for months, will have its first song released later this year via Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records.

It’s unclear at this moment if Everything Is Changing is still the working title for the sequel to 2019’s Free Spirit. There are no more indications as to whether “New Normal,” which was released in July, will be on the tracklist. It was only to commemorate the fifth anniversary of his Grammy-nominated first album American Teen that Khalid released the song “Last Call” this spring.

“I’m really excited to share ‘Last Call’ with all my fans. It’s important to me to commemorate this day and look back at everything that has happened. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years already,” Khalid mentioned. “I hope you guys enjoy it and celebrate with me and all we’ve done together.”

With total U.S. sales of more than four million equivalent units sold, his 2017 full-length album has now been certified 4x multi-platinum.

Regarding its first single, “Location,” which sold more than 10 million equivalent units, became the 75th record in RIAA history to achieve diamond status.

After releasing his second single of the year, Khalid worked on “Numb” alongside the anonymous electronic DJ and producer Marshmello. The well-known song has been remixed several times and has had over 108 million Spotify plays. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at position 40.

Then in August, Khalid collaborated with Alicia Keys on “Come For Me (Unlocked)” and Lukas Graham on “Wish You Were Here.” Khalid released Scenic Drive (The Tape) before the end of 2021, which was reviewed by Rated R&B. Keys, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, 6LACK, QUI, Kiana Ledé, Majid Jordan, JID, and Smino made cameos on the brief album of brand-new tracks.
