Eighteen years back on august 29, “My Boo” by Usher and Alicia Keys dropped as part of a groundbreaking album. Time flies and now the two artists are celebrating this piece by starting an open verse challenge. Initiated by Alicia Keys, as she sang her part and fans rapped Usher’s, the challenge was a major success.

“A few days later (Sept. 4), Usher participated in the challenge live during his residency show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Usher performed his parts with a packed crowd behind him, who also joined in to sing,” RatedRnB reports. “The single peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of Oct. 31, 2004, and remained in the top spot for six weeks. It spent a total of 26 on the coveted singles chart…In 2005, Usher and Keys won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by Duo or Group With Vocals at the 47th ceremony.”
