DaniLeigh is no longer blindfolded, telling her experience of awakening on the new track “Heartbreaker.”
The multi-platinum singer appears to have awoken and smelled the coffee regarding a crafty two-timer who’s exposed his hand more than once on the guitar-laden single.
“It’s a shame the way you play / Play your games, your silly games / Should’ve known, it was in my face / I guess I got what I bargained for / Walkin away, finally / I’m for real this time / I won’t change my mind,” DaniLeigh sings in an airy voice.
DaniLeigh’s current single, “Heartbreaker,” will feature on her upcoming EP, My Side, which will be released on Def Jam Recordings on July 22.
DaniLeigh released “Dead to Me” before “Heartbreaker.” In a spring interview with Angie Martinez, she explained why she chose the later tune to open the new album.
DaniLeigh told Martinez:
“I wanted to just kick it off with this song because it expressed the place I was in and what I needed to do for myself, which was dead the relationship, and make sure I do it for myself and my child. The toxic situation just needed to die.”
Her claimed toxic relationship with rapper DaBaby, the father of her first child, inspired the songs “Heartbreaker” and “Dead to Me,” as well as the upcoming EP.
DaniLeigh worked with a number of producers and songwriters on My Side, including Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Eric Young, Ina Wroldsen, Nelson “Keyz” Bridges, and Cheyenne L. Surratt.
DaniLeigh’s 2020 album, Movie, will be followed by My Side. Ty Dolla $ign, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Queen Naija, Fivio Foreign, and others made cameos on the 16-track album.
DaniLeigh launched songs with DaBaby before Movie, including “Monique” and “Levi High.”
