Beyoncé’s single “Break My Soul” climbs to No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending July 9.
It’s the music legend’s 20th number-one hit as a solo act. The previous week, the lead track from Beyoncé’s upcoming album Renaissance was released at No. 15.
Beyoncé’s latest achievement placed her in Billboard history as one of 23 artists (soloist and group) to have 20 or more top 10 Hot 100 songs. She joins Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, and others on the list.
Furthermore, Beyoncé is the first woman and the second Black person, after Michael Jackson, to have reached the top 10 of the Hot 100 at least 20 times as a solo artist and ten times as a part of a group. Beyoncé acquired twelve entries with Destiny’s Child, four of which topped the chart, including “Bootylicious” and “Say My Name.”
The number 20 for Beyoncé bears enormous importance. This December marks the 20th anniversary of her first appearance in the top ten, when her billionaire husband, Jay-“’03 Z’s Bonnie & Clyde,” on which she appears, debuted at No. 8. It ultimately reached No. 4 during the tracking week of December 28, 2002.
The Grammy-winning track “Crazy in Love,” starring Jay-Z, would be Beyoncé’s first top 10 hits as a solo artist the following year. The gold-selling sensation later debuted at number one and remained there for eight weeks.
Beyoncé topped the charts for the eighth time in May 2020 with Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage (Remix).”
As previously stated, “Break My Soul” serves as the lead single from Beyoncé’s seventh studio album Renaissance, which is set to be released on July 29 through Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records. Her seventh studio album, Lemonade, arrives six years after her previous genuine solo album.
Of Renaissance, Beyoncé wrote on Instagram, “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving.”
She continued, “My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
Following the critically acclaimed 2016 album, which won Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 59th Grammy Awards, Beyoncé released a number of important projects, one of which (Everything Is Love) was published under the stage name The Carters (with Jay-Z).
Beyoncé was nominated for Best Original Song at the 79th Golden Globes in January for “Be Alive.” She received the same honor at the 94th Academy Awards. Beyoncé sang the King Richard song, which Dixson co-wrote and co-produced, during the latter ceremony.
“I’m very blessed to have a great team behind me,” Dixson told Rated R&B of collaborating with Beyoncé. “When the opportunity came, I said yes and did my best. When I turned my part of the song in, it wasn’t quite a complete thought. It became complete when she did what only Beyoncé can do.”
