Oceanco has shared that they are saddened by the unexpected news of the passing of their Black Pearl client —Mr Oleg Bourlakov.
“It is no exaggeration to say that the journey we as Oceanco went on together through the development, construction and operation of Black Pearl was exceptional, says Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco. “Oceanco had a lot of respect and admiration for his drive, passion and vision and he felt like a friend and part of the Oceanco family to us all.”
Bourlakov, a Russian entrepreneur and engineer, along with Oceanco, a team of designers and engineers, including Ken Freivokh, Nuvolari Lenard, Villate Design, Dykstra Naval Architects, and Lateral Naval Architects. a created Black Pearl —the largest and most eco-conscious sailing yacht in the world. Among many other innovations and inventions, this trideck three -masted vessel touts a hybrid propulsion system as well as other onboard systems such as waste heat recovery and a complex power regeneration system. She has a revolutionary DynaRig system, three towering 230-foot (70-meter) high masts and 31, 215 square feet (2900 square meters) of sails which can be set in a mere seven minutes.
Mr. Bourlakov has left an exceptional legacy for the world yachting community.
