Sekou strips back the layers on his latest offering, the evocative piano ballad “Let Go of Me Slowly.” Produced by Yakob, the song cuts deep, exploring the raw vulnerability of a love lost.
Sekou’s voice aches with emotion as he pleads with a former lover, “Can you promise / Remember my name / Remember how it felt to hold me?” The lyrics linger, questioning the bittersweet remnants of a faded connection.
Speaking about the deeply personal track, Sekou explains, “This song emerged from a difficult time. I struggled to find the words, but revisiting the past helped me translate those emotions into music. Honesty was key.”
He continues, “There’s a catharsis in expressing yourself. It’s like releasing a weight you carry after a breakup.”
“Let Go of Me Slowly” follows the success of Sekou’s January release, the heartfelt “Crying,” co-written with producer Matt Rist and singer-songwriter Bibi Bourelly. The track has already amassed over 1.2 million streams on Spotify.
In 2023, Sekou’s debut single, the stirring ballad “Better Man,” captured the hearts of listeners, garnering over 6.7 million streams on Spotify to date. The song, also produced by Yakob, appears on Sekou’s debut EP, Out of Mind, released in the fall of that year.
Earlier in 2024, Sekou supported Renée Rapp on the European leg of her Snow Hard Feelings Tour. Looking ahead, Sekou has a busy schedule lined up, including a solo concert at Omeara London on May 13th, followed by appearances at Cross The Tracks Festival and Latitude Festival.
