Grammy-winning artist PJ Morton returns with a soulful blend of Afrobeats in his latest single, “Please Be Good,” offering listeners a much-needed escape from the rigors of daily life.
Produced in collaboration with P.Priime, the track exudes a laid-back vibe as Morton expresses the desire to unwind and find solace amidst the chaos. “I’ve been on the go, working so hard / I think I need a break / Every now and then, it gets too much / Much more than I can take,” croons Morton in the opening verse, capturing the sentiment of seeking respite from life’s demands.
Reflecting on the song’s inception, Morton shares, “I was in Lagos, Nigeria, and one of my favorite new producers P. Priime played this beat. I immediately took out my phone and started to record ideas. I love that it’s a mixture of so many vibes,” highlighting the diverse influences that shaped the track’s creation.
“Please Be Good” serves as the inaugural offering from Morton’s forthcoming album, slated for release this year under Morton Records / EMPIRE. Recorded during his immersive 30-day journey across Africa last fall, the album sees Morton collaborating with local musicians from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt, infusing his signature sound with rich cultural textures.
This upcoming project follows Morton’s critically acclaimed 2022 album, Watch The Sun, a Grammy-nominated masterpiece featuring collaborations with industry icons such as Stevie Wonder, Nas, El DeBarge, Jill Scott, and Alex Isley. Notably, Morton recently clinched the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for his track “Good Morning” featuring Susan Carol.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Morton is set to release his memoir, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, on Nov. 12 via Worthy Publishing, offering fans a deeper insight into his multifaceted journey as an artist and storyteller.
