Daniel Caesar returns with a heartfelt rendition of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ iconic track, “Waiting In Vain,” serving as the second single from the forthcoming Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack.
Caesar’s rendition, self-produced and deeply personal, finds its place among the lineup of the seven-track project, slated for release on February 14 via Tuff Gong/Island Records.
Reflecting on his connection to Marley’s music, Caesar shares, “My dad used to sing around the house a lot and play the guitar and one of his favorite songs to play was ‘Redemption Song’ – That was one of the first songs I remember learning how to play as well.”
In discussing Marley’s influence on his own artistry, Caesar remarks, “I love the idea of music where…if you’re going to say something, say something. It’s not all about aesthetic, he had something to say. Similarly, I have things to say – a lot of my music centers around expressing my emotions, but I have moments where I like to say something that is important and take a stance.”
The Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack, curated with contributions from artists like Skip Marley, Leon Bridges, and Jessie Reyez, offers a poignant homage to the legendary musician. Under the guidance of the Marley family, each selection on the EP was chosen with care and reverence.
The film Bob Marley: One Love, produced in partnership with Paramount Pictures, delves into Marley’s life and musical legacy, starring Kinglsey Ben-Adir as Marley and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita. Scheduled for release on February 14, the movie promises to celebrate the enduring impact of Marley’s message of love and unity.
As Caesar presents “Waiting In Vain,” it marks his first release since his acclaimed third album, Never Enough, debuted in April 2023. With a roster of features including Summer Walker, Ty Dolla $ign, and Rick Ross, Never Enough solidified Caesar’s standing in the R&B landscape.
