Justin Timberlake, the iconic singer, has marked his return to the music scene with “Selfish,” the lead single from his upcoming sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was.

Collaborating with producers Louis Bell and Cirkut, along with songwriters Theron Thomas and Amy Allen, Timberlake explores the complexities of his emotions within a relationship. The song reveals his deep admiration for his partner, expressing unease at the thought of anyone else taking his place.

In the chorus, Timberlake confesses, “So if I get jealous, I can’t help it / I want every bit of you, I guess I’m selfish / It’s bad for my mental, but I can’t fight it, when / You’re out lookin’ like you do, but you can’t hide it, no.”

Accompanying the single is a video directed by Bradley Calder, providing a glimpse into the song’s introspective themes by blending the line between performance and reality.

“Selfish” serves as the inaugural release from Timberlake’s album, Everything I Thought It Was, scheduled to drop on March 15 under RCA Records. The album, available for pre-order, comprises 18 tracks and follows his 2018 release, Man of the Woods.

Timberlake is set to grace the stage of Saturday Night Live on Jan. 27 as a musical guest, and he’s also nominated in two categories at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards for his collaboration on Coco Jones’ “ICU (Remix).”
