Congratulations on the successful debut of elijah.! The album has already made a significant impact, landing at #2 and #3 on the R&B iTunes Charts. How do you feel about the early reception of this project?

It’s still a little surreal. I didn’t have any expectations going into the creative process of this project. I saw it moreso as a means of expression at a point in my life where I needed my art to reflect what was happening in my real life so to see people connecting with these very personal stories of mine is incredible.

How does this album represent a new chapter in your career compared to your previous work?

I think people got to see a much more vulnerable side of me this go round I know that can come off a bit as the expected response but genuinely feel this way. All that tough guy sh*t went out the window and the gentleman in me got to have a word.

The standout single, “Ghostbuster,” has been receiving significant attention. Can you dive deeper into the creative process behind this track and how it captures the essence of the album?

“Ghostbuster” still is such a departure for me… it was critical that the audience that thought they knew everything about how I would approach music moving forward had to think again. There’s so much growth on this song, vocally & visually.

The tracklist for elijah. includes a variety of themes and moods. Can you share the story or inspiration behind a few of the tracks, such as “Rainberry Woods” or “Magic Moments”?

Rainberry Woods” is the street I grew up on, & even now, when I close my eyes, I can smell my childhood & can still taste my mother’s breakfast before school. I wanted the listener to share in that when they start the project. “Magic Moments,” however, is more of an imaginative kinda song. A feeling, if you will, of how new love can feel like Sunshine & Magic.

Can you describe the journey of making this album? What were some of the challenges and highlights you encountered along the way?

I made this project before I realized I was making an album, if that makes any sense. The difference this time was that I had the right people around me to help me put it together & hone it in rather than overthinking myself out of good ideas like I normally would

Are there any specific tracks on elijah. that you feel particularly proud of or that hold special significance for you?

All of them! Not even kidding (laughs), it’s one song today, another before the night ends, and a different one tomorrow (laughs).

Your recent collaboration with Yves Saint Laurent and Celine marks an exciting intersection of fashion and music. How do you see your role evolving in the fashion world?

I feel like collaboration is such a strong word. I would like to say though I was surprised when both said yes to looks for the video. I’ve had huge artists & past stylists tell me stories of how some brands just flat out say uh uh.

What are some of the key elements or trends in modern R&B that you feel are important to explore and incorporate in your music?

I feel like experimenting in general should be more accepted. It’s like every song on the radio these days happens to be a cover of a cover. I’d love to be considered experimental and fresh when it’s all said & done.

Can you discuss any R&B artists or movements that have particularly inspired you and how they’ve influenced your approach to making music?

Prince! I just admire him for always unapologetically rebelling against anything that was considered normal.

How do you plan to support elijah. in the coming months? Are there any upcoming performances or promotional activities planned?

Oh yea! There’s alot more! I can’t say too much because that’s how close we are to guaranteeing.
