Michael Kiwanuka has revealed the details of his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Small Changes, marking his first release since 2019’s Mercury Prize-winning Kiwanuka. The new record, produced once again in collaboration with Danger Mouse and Inflo, is set to drop on November 15.
Alongside the album announcement, Michael Kiwanuka has treated fans to two new tracks, ‘Lowdown (part i)’ and ‘Lowdown (part ii)’, offering the first glimpse of his latest work since the lead single ‘Floating Parade’ was released in July. The tracks showcase his signature style, with ‘Lowdown (part i)’ featuring soulful guitar and bass-heavy rhythms, while ‘Lowdown (part ii)’ explores more atmospheric, psychedelic sounds—both undeniably rooted in Kiwanuka’s distinctive musical identity.
Small Changes comes at a transformative time in Michael Kiwanuka’s life. The album reflects his personal journey, including the arrival of his two children and a move away from his hometown of Muswell Hill in North London. Reflecting on this period, Kiwanuka shared a poignant insight from a fellow artist: “The thing about children is that they give you wings,” he explained, adding, “I didn’t know what he meant, but now I totally know.”
Before the album’s release, Kiwanuka will head to the US for a joint-headline tour with Brittany Howard, kicking off at the end of this month. This tour follows a busy summer, which saw the singer-songwriter perform at major festivals, including a set on Glastonbury’s iconic Pyramid Stage in June and a slot at Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire in August.
