Coco Jones continues to solidify her presence in the R&B scene with the release of her new single, “Sweep It Up.” The Grammy-winning artist co-wrote the track with Leon Thomas and Bizzy Crook, delivering a song that showcases her ability to create music that resonates with a broad audience. “Sweep It Up” is a dynamic and engaging tune that shifts pace and tempo, keeping listeners hooked from start to finish. It’s a promising lead-up to her much-anticipated debut album.
On this track, Jones takes on a more assertive tone, addressing an immature partner who needs to shape up before she finds solace elsewhere. With a classic, hook-driven sound, Jones doesn’t hold back in expressing her frustrations, singing, “Shoulda been my baby, what’s the holdup? / Just tell me when you’re going to grow up.” The lyrics reflect a relatable theme of seeking more from a relationship, a sentiment that is likely to resonate with many listeners.
The production of “Sweep It Up” is a collaborative effort, featuring work from London on Da Track, Ray Keys, Jeremy “J Dot” Jones, and Cash Money AP. Their combined talents result in a polished, yet raw sound that complements Jones’ vocal delivery perfectly. Speaking about her new release, Jones shared her excitement: “I am so excited to give the world an uptempo R&B bop… I’ve been waiting on this for a while.”
“Sweep It Up” follows on the heels of Jones’ previous single, “Here We Go (Uh Oh),” which has quickly gained traction since its release in May. The track, which samples R&B legend Lenny Williams, was produced by Cardiak and Wu10. Jones explained to Rated R&B that the song’s concept was inspired by the orchestral and mysterious feel of the sample, likening it to a cinematic mission. She described the track as a story of breaking free from a recurring toxic relationship—a mission to overcome a persistent obstacle.
“Here We Go (Uh Oh)” has performed well on the charts, currently sitting at No. 10 on urban radio and No. 16 on R&B radio. It’s also trending at No. 17 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. Both “Sweep It Up” and “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” are set to appear on Jones’ forthcoming debut album, which will be released under High Standardz/Def Jam Recordings.
This debut album will be Jones’ first full-length project following her 2022 EP, ‘What I Didn’t Tell You‘. The EP was later reissued as a deluxe edition in early 2023 and earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 66th Grammy Awards. Jones’ recent success with her single “ICU,” which achieved platinum status, further underscores her growing influence in the R&B genre. Produced by Camper, “ICU” was a standout track that contributed significantly to the success of her EP.
Additionally, Jones recently collaborated with Disney to release a remake of “Almost There” as part of their reimagining of iconic Princess songs. This collaboration, along with her musical achievements, demonstrates Jones’ versatility and ability to connect with a wide audience.
As Coco Jones continues to release new music and build anticipation for her debut album, her latest single, “Sweep It Up,” is yet another strong entry that highlights her growth as an artist and her potential to make a lasting impact on the industry.
