SZA Announces Indefinite Break from Live Performances

SZA

R&B artist SZA has decided to take a break from her live performances. She announced this decision on her X account after her last show at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal on August 5. “Yesterday was my last show for a while,” she posted. “Finally about to get my life together, thank God.”

This announcement follows a busy period for SZA, who has been touring extensively. Since the beginning of 2023, she has performed at 63 concerts worldwide as part of her SOS Tour, in addition to a series of summer festival gigs, including notable performances at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Glastonbury in the UK.

Though she’s stepping away from the stage, SZA assured fans that she will continue to release new music. At Lollapalooza, she introduced a new song, “Cry Baby,” which is yet to be officially released. She’s also mentioned working on a new project called Lana, which will include fresh tracks and some previously unreleased material from her latest album, SOS. “Will be dropping the leaks and outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap,” she shared earlier on X. Additionally, she has hinted at an upcoming collaboration with Paramore.

Even as she pauses her performance schedule, SZA remains engaged with the music community, expressing her admiration for other artists, such as Chappell Roan, on Instagram. “She makes me wanna keep making new music and art forever,” she wrote.

SZA’s decision to take a hiatus comes when she is experiencing significant commercial and critical acclaim. Her latest album, SOS, released in December 2022, has been a major success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and maintaining strong chart performance. Her single “Kill Bill” also achieved No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2023, marking her first solo chart-topping hit.
