Could you walk us through the creative process behind your new single, “My Heart”? What inspired the song?
‘My Heart’ is not your typical love song; it delves into the complexities of loving someone and the sacrifices that come with it. When Aykbeats arrived at the house and played the beat for the song, I immediately felt a connection to it. The melody spoke to me in a way that I knew this was going to be more than just a simple love song. It captured the essence of the emotions and challenges that come with loving another person, making it a unique and heartfelt piece of music that resonates deeply with anyone who has experienced the highs and lows of love.
“My Heart” features Majeeed. How did the collaboration with him come about, and what was it like working together?
I’ve known Majeeed for a while now, and I love his music, so the decision to put him on my song was a no-brainer. Working with Majeeed was swift because he’s a very talented artist.
The song is described as a fusion of R&B and afrobeats. How did you approach blending these genres, and what were the challenges and highlights?
To blend R&B and Afrobeats, I combined heartfelt feelings with upbeat vibes and cultural variety. This was the idea behind making the track “My Heart.” Challenges involved striking a perfect mix of complexity and simplicity while staying true to myself. Highlights in making this song include creating a unique sound, mixing deep emotions with energy, and incorporating different music styles.
Konstance, your EP In The Beginning is set to release soon. How does “My Heart” fit into the larger narrative of the EP?
The EP has songs centered on the theme of love and ‘My heart’ fits into the larger narrative because it’s also a love song.
The music video for “My Heart” was shot in Lagos. What was the creative vision behind the video, and how does it complement the song?
The video for “My Heart” was directed by Bush boy Machiavelli and creating a concept for this song was easy as it is a love song. It just came down to adding a different perspective, just like the song, and the concept chosen goes well with the song.
Can you tell us about your musical journey so far and how you got started in the industry?
I started my musical journey at the age of 12 and won my first competition. I went to more competitions, did more song covers and by the age of 18, I was signed into Bankulli Entertainment. My musical journey so far has been refreshing and I’m forever grateful to God for being with me every step of the way.
You’ve mentioned balancing music with studies at Lagos State University. How do you manage both aspects of your life?
Through dedication and perseverance, I have learned to navigate the demands of school while pursuing my musical aspirations. This delicate balance has allowed me to grow not only as a student but also as an artist, showcasing the importance of determination and commitment in achieving my goals.
What do you believe sets you apart from other artists in the R&B and afrobeats genres?
My sound is very soulful, so I think that sets me apart from every other artist in these genres.
How do you envision your music evolving over the next five years, and what new directions would you like to explore?
In the next five years, I want my songs to be topping charts and breaking world records. I also want to be a known actor, as acting is also something of my interest, and I think I’m in the right direction with my coming movie, ‘DUST TO DREAMS’. Fashion is also something that catches my attention.
Looking back at everything you’ve accomplished and looking ahead to where your music journey is taking you, what do you hope your fans and listeners will remember most about your music and your impact on the industry?
I hope that my fans and listeners remember the emotions, messages, and experiences woven into my music. I aspire for them to feel a sense of connection, inspiration, and joy when they listen to my songs. My impact on the industry would ideally be remembered as innovative, authentic, and influential, with a lasting legacy of positivity and creativity.
