Jennifer Hudson is back in the studio. The award-winning singer and talk show host took to social media on Wednesday (May 22) to share that she is recording new music. “Today is the day, y’all, back in the studio. Back to the music!!” Hudson captioned a photo of herself in a recording booth behind a microphone.
It’s not clear whether Hudson is working on a single or an entire project, but her voice is undoubtedly missed. In 2021, Hudson provided the soundtrack for the Aretha Franklin biopic “RESPECT,” in which she portrayed the Queen of Soul. The album featured her renditions of Franklin’s classics such as “Respect,” “Ain’t No Way,” “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You),” “Chain of Fools,” “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” and more.
The soundtrack also included Hudson’s cover of Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” and her original song, “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home),” co-written with Carol King and Jamie Hartman.
Hudson received the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture award at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards and also won at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards for her talk show, “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” The opening track, “Dangerous”, features writing and production by dvsn, the duo of producer Nineteen85 and vocalist Daniel Daley.
Hudson’s album “JHUD” debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking her third consecutive top 10 album at the time.
