Nigerian songstress Tems gears up to unleash her highly anticipated debut album, Born in the Wild, arriving on June 7th via Since ’93/RCA Records.
Born in the Wild is a deeply personal exploration of Tems’ artistic journey. “It’s about my experiences, the things that shaped me into the person I am today,” Tems shared in a recent interview with Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1. “The life I lived before felt wild, untamed, a constant process of navigating and learning.”
She continued, “Lagos is my home, that’s part of the story, but the album goes beyond location. It’s about the internal wilderness, the struggles and lessons that made me who I am.”
The album’s lead single, “Love Me JeJe,” samples Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 classic of the same name. Sodimu even makes a special appearance in the captivating music video, directed by Tems herself. “JeJe” embodies the essence of Afrobeat love songs, pleading for gentle affection and unwavering commitment.
While standalone singles “Me & U” and “Not An Angel” were released in 2023, their inclusion on the album remains unconfirmed. Born in the the Wild marks Tems’ first major project since the critically acclaimed 2021 EP, If Orange Was A Place, featuring the hit collaboration “Found” with Brent Faiyaz.
To celebrate the album’s release, Tems embarks on the Born in the Wild World Tour, joined by special guests Naomi Sharon and Lekan. The global tour kicks off with a U.K./European leg starting June 16th at London’s Eventim Apollo. Tems will captivate audiences in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and more, culminating on July 16th at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland.
The North American leg ignites on August 22nd at The Fillmore Miami Beach, with stops in Dallas, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and concluding on October 1st in Los Angeles. The tour then heads Down Under, starting in Melbourne on November 9th and wrapping up in Sydney on November 15th.
