Lalah Hathaway ‘s new single, “So In Love,” is a vibrant exploration of love’s multifaceted nature, and the accompanying music video beautifully reflects that sentiment.
Directed by Sadé Clacken Joseph, the visual showcases Hathaway in a series of stylish outfits, intercut with scenes depicting the love shared between Black parents, children, and couples.
“There’s such a unique energy to ‘So In Love,’ and like much of my work, it delves into unconventional perspectives on love and self-love,” Lalah Hathaway explained. “The video expands on this theme in a powerful way!”
Hathaway co-wrote the heartwarming “So In Love” with Philip Beaudreau. The track serves as the lead single for her upcoming album, VANTABLACK, arriving June 14th via Hathaway Entertainment/SRG-ILS Group.
“VANTABLACK was always intended to be the project title,” Hathaway revealed. “The word itself carries so much depth, and it initially left me unsure of how to approach writing the songs.”
“What I initially perceived as conflicting ideas actually became the foundation for the album’s concept, and how I viewed myself as an artist,” she continued. “I began to reframe my perspective on color, embracing my blackness more fully than ever before. However, while my identity is deeply rooted in that, it doesn’t negate the other influences that contribute to who I am as a whole. Similarly, all the various musical styles I’m drawn to inform the Black music I create. It’s a beautiful melting pot, and this song truly embodies that spirit.”
VANTABLACK boasts an impressive list of collaborators, including WILLOW, MC Lyte, Common, Rapsody, Michael McDonald, Phonte, and Gerald Albright.
The upcoming album marks the follow-up to Hathaway’s 2018 release, honestly (deluxe edition), which was an expanded version of her 2017 LP.
