Rising star Maeta is celebrating a major milestone. Her single “Through the Night,” featuring the production collective Free Nationals, has soared to the No. 1 spot on R&B radio. This marks Maeta’s first chart-topping single on any radio format.

“Through the Night” made a steady climb, jumping two positions from No. 3 to No. 1 this week. It raked in an additional 148 spins, bringing its total to 2,048 plays and reaching an audience impression of six million.

The Camper-produced track, co-written by the talented trio of Lucky Daye and Elijah Blake, serves as the lead single from Maeta’s 2023 EP, When I Hear Your Name, released under Roc Nation.

Speaking to Rated R&B about the project, Maeta shed light on the complexities of love explored in When I Hear Your Name. “Love isn’t always sunshine and rainbows,” she explained. “Sometimes it’s messy, and that’s okay. This EP explores the challenges and contradictions of love. I hope it resonates with people who are going through similar experiences.”

The multifaceted nature of love is further emphasized by the EP’s closing track, “Through the Night.” As Maeta explains, “It ends with a moment of raw honesty. We acknowledge the dysfunction, yet we crave intimacy in that moment. That’s the emotional rollercoaster of love – you can be completely frustrated and attracted at the same time. When I Hear Your Name captures that spectrum of emotions.”

When I Hear Your Name boasts a stellar lineup of collaborators, including Lucky Daye, Ty Dolla $ign, James Fauntleroy, and Ambré. Notably, Maeta co-wrote the third track, “Anybody,” with the critically acclaimed SZA.

Maeta has more exciting projects on the horizon. She recently confirmed on social media that a collaborative effort with electronic music producer Kaytranada is in the works. The news comes after Maeta first hinted at the project in an interview with Rated R&B, revealing it includes “six songs, four written by Fallon [King] and two written by James Fauntleroy.”

Fans can also catch Maeta live this summer as she joins Chris Brown on his headlining 11:11 Tour, kicking off June 5 in Detroit.
