Soul songstress Baby Rose has joined forces with the dynamic production duo BADBADNOTGOOD for an upcoming EP titled Slow Burn, set to release on April 12 via Secretly Canadian.
The EP’s lead single, “One Last Dance,” is already making waves. In this poignant ballad, Rose croons about the bittersweet desire to reignite a flame with a former lover. With lyrics like, “You know I still remember / Tried so hard but I can’t forget you,” Rose captures the emotional turmoil of longing for a connection that may never be rekindled.
Reflecting on the genesis of “One Last Dance,” Rose reveals, “BADBADNOTGOOD and I recorded this song on the day we met, just as evening approached. I asked for one more, a country song, and when the chords came, I sang from the heart without needing to write the words down.” She adds, “It reflects my feelings of longing and love for someone who sees me as a villain in their story.”
Continuing, Rose delves deeper into the emotional landscape of the song, stating, “There’s a strong part of me that wishes we could try again, pretend it never fell apart, even while knowing it will never be the same. The longing is less about the person and more about the feelings behind the memories we shared.”
The Slow Burn EP will also feature a collaboration with fellow artist Mereba, adding another layer of depth and dimension to the project. This upcoming release follows Rose’s acclaimed 2023 album, Through and Through, which boasted collaborations with artists like Smino and Georgia Ann Muldrow.
As fans eagerly anticipate the arrival of Slow Burn, they can immerse themselves in the soul-stirring sounds of “One Last Dance,” a poignant ode to love, loss, and longing. Stream the song below and prepare to be captivated by Baby Rose and BADBADNOTGOOD’s musical alchemy.
