Trevor Jackson makes a compelling return with his latest EP, Heads Up, released under his Born Art label. This four-track compilation offers a dynamic blend of catchy tunes delving into intimate themes.
Highlighted by the titular track, which debuted in February, Heads Up spans 12 minutes of Jackson’s signature style infused with fresh energy. The standout “All The Way,” featuring Malaika Terry, delivers a bass-heavy anthem where Jackson embraces full-throttle passion, singing, “Love it when I’m deep in / So I’m divin’ off of that deep end.”
In the vulnerable “Forget About Me,” Jackson candidly explores catching feelings for a fleeting connection, expressing regret with lines like, “I should’ve kept my distance / You warned me but I didn’t listen.”
Reflecting on his latest project, Jackson shares exclusively with Rated R&B, “A heads-up is a warning, a call out, and a gesture to let people know that something is coming. Heads Up, the EP, is just the beginning, and I want people to know that these four R&B classics I just released are a beautiful introduction of what’s to come. You know, it’s complicated.”
Heads Up follows Jackson’s 2022 EP, Show Me Diamonds, which melded drill and R&B influences. Explaining his creative process, Jackson notes, “With all due respect to the culture of drill music, I felt the inspiration to add it. That space has turned into ‘drill&b’ and people are loving it. I had a great time making this project and I wanted my fans to feel the same energy I felt when I made it as they listen in. Here’s a little treat before the holidays.”
