Only two months have passed since Dumomi The Jig, the British Nigerian musical sensation and rising star in the realm of Afrobeats, exploded onto the scene with his catchy debut single, ‘Anticipating.’ Building on this stellar introduction, he maintained momentum with last month’s viral sensation, ‘Fantasy.’ In this brief span, Dumomi The Jig has achieved an impressive feat, amassing two million global streams for ‘Anticipating’ and ‘Fantasy.’ Beyond sheer numbers, he has earned praise from notable Afrobeats authorities such as Pulse Nigeria, The Beat Lagos, WeTalkSound, and The 49th Street.
Dumomi The Jig is poised to introduce his third offering in as many months. This time, he unveils the one of a kind single ‘MARIA,’ a fusion of Afrobeats and Amapiano, featuring none other than the Queen of Afrohouse herself, Niniola.
Released through Adult Global Nation, ‘Maria’ sees Dumomi The Jig collaborating with the two-time Grammy Award nominee Niniola and the enigmatic Nigerian producer Black Culture. The latter, known for his work with Afrobeats royalty Wande Coal and Tekno, contributes to bringing Dumomi’s infectious afropiano track to life. The essence of the song revolves around expressing love through actions rather than mere words. Accompanying the track is a visually stunning music video shot on location in London, directed by VisualsByLuminous (known for work with Wizkid and BNXN), with executive production by Visionnaire Pictures’ George Guise (credited with Ms Banks, Aitch, Nafe Smallz).
In explaining the inspiration behind ‘Maria,’ Dumomi The Jig reveals, “Not to sound cliché, but everything I wrote on ‘Maria’ is something I had experienced in my last relationship.” The song delves into the challenge of continually proving love, loyalty, and genuine intentions to an insatiable partner. Reflecting on the creative process, Dumomi shares a unique approach, saying, “I made the track with Niniola specifically in mind as someone I wanted to collaborate with on the song.” His label arranged a session with Niniola, resulting in a surprising and gratifying collaboration that brought his vision to life.
For those who appreciate the sounds of Rema or Fireboy DML, Dumomi The Jig emerges as a dynamic artist with roots deeply entrenched in the vibrant culture of Ikeja in Lagos, his birthplace, and the boundless city of London, where he currently resides. Hailing from a family rich in diverse professional talents, Dumomi The Jig’s upbringing was steeped in musical influence, particularly his father’s passion for the piano. This influence ignited a love for music that Dumomi carries with him to this day.
