Formerly a part of the R&B duo VanJess, Jessica Nwokike has stepped into the solo spotlight under the moniker AMAKA with the release of her debut EP titled Oasis.
The EP, consisting of six tracks, introduces listeners to AMAKA‘s unique musical journey. The collection includes previously revealed songs such as “Cruisin‘,” “Leave it Behind,” and the titular track “Oasis.” All of these tracks were skillfully produced by Kaytranada, who has also worked alongside VanJess in the past.
The lead single, “Cruisin‘,” holds profound personal significance for AMAKA. She disclosed its emotional inspiration detailing that the song was penned as a means to empower herself following her father’s passing in 2021. In a heartwarming collaboration, AMAKA joins forces with her sister, Ivana Nwokike, to co-write the closing track, “Undercover.”
