BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Jack Saunders recently introduced the world to a new song from London’s rising talent, Debbie Ehirim, popularly known as Debbie. Her latest track, titled “No Way,” has already generated a buzz in the music industry.
“No Way” marks a significant milestone for Debbie as it follows the new remix of her earlier hit, “Is This Real Love?” which featured the artist Lucky Daye. This new song is a collaboration with British singer-songwriter MNEK, and renowned producer Knox Brown. The production credits are shared by Jonny Coffer, Knox Brown, and Shaun Barrett.
Debbie discussed the inspiration and the process behind “No Way” with Jack Saunders. She revealed, “I wrote this song when I just broken up with my ex and I was in my savage of my mode, my savage bag, and yeah, this is what I came up with along with the help of an incredible writer called MNEK. And I’m so happy that it’s out in the world.”
Further delving into the process, Debbie shared an interesting anecdote. She wore sunglasses for an entire week, repeatedly listened to Beyoncé’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” and maintained a firm mood that resonated with her emotions. She recalled walking into the session, belting out the chorus, but her anger held her back from coming up with a verse. So, she decided to leave it incomplete for the moment.
A year later, the song finally found its completion when MNEK lent his creative prowess to craft the perfect verse. Thus, “No Way” emerged as a result of Debbie’s raw emotions and MNEK’s lyrical finesse. This musical manifestation of Debbie’s personal journey holds the potential to resonate with a multitude of listeners, each interpreting the song in their own unique way.
