American artist, Billie Eilish, brings her distinctive style to the forthcoming “Barbie” movie soundtrack, with a stirring new song, “What Was I Made For?”.
In collaboration with her brother FINNEAS, the song was brought to life in his Los Angeles home studio. The tune, intricately crafted and rich in emotional depth, bears the signature production skills of Andrew Wyatt, FINNEAS, and Grammy-winning British producer Mark Ronson.
Eilish’s excitement over the project was palpable as she shared her experience on social media. “In January, Greta showed me and FINNEAS a handful of some unfinished scenes from the film; we had no idea what to expect at all… we were so deeply moved… that the next day we were writing and couldn’t shut up about it…we ended up writing almost the entire song that night…I’m so so thankful for that,” Eilish recounted.
The emotionally-charged music video accompanying the song is a testament to Eilish’s creative vision, as she took on the director’s role. The artist confessed, “This video makes me cry…it means so much to me, and I hope it will mean just as much to you. I don’t have much to say other than that, I think it will speak for itself.”
The “Barbie” film, helmed by acclaimed director Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. With a highly anticipated soundtrack produced by Mark Ronson, the film and the soundtrack are set for release on July 21, 2023.
When talking to Rolling Stone, Ronson couldn’t help but gush about the movie. “I don’t read a lot of scripts, but it was just everything I want in a movie. I was like, ‘If I don’t get this gig, this is gonna be my favorite movie of the year.’”
