Phaemous and DJames have collaborated to bring us an extraordinary R&B project titled ‘Boundaries.’ This 5-track EP beautifully merges R&B soundscapes and melodies with minimalist Afrobeats sensibilities. Crafted between Lagos and London, the project explores various themes related to love and relationships, ranging from first-date jitters and expectations to the expression of affection and feelings toward a love interest.
The EP opens with the captivating ‘MIA,’ where Phaemous expresses his lament over the disappearance of his love interest. DJames’ melodious saxophone arrangements complement the track perfectly. Following that is infectious ‘What Is Love?’ Driven by captivating drum patterns, this track questions the age-old debate of whether we truly desire love or money. As the EP unfolds, it takes a sexier turn with ‘First Time,’ featuring jazzy keyboards and provocative lyrics. The EP concludes with the sensual ‘Dreaming,’ where DJames mesmerizes us with his sexy saxophone arrangements and live keyboard elements.
The Creative Process and Inspiration
According to Phaemous, the ‘Boundaries’ EP was motivated by his and DJames’ mutual appreciation for R&B and Afrobeats. They have created an enjoyable listening experience by combining parts of both genres. To which Phaemous chimes in, “We wanted a chance to showcase our versatility, and I believe we achieved that. As a DJ and producer, I enjoy uncovering fresh talent,” DJames said of working with Phaemous. Working with Phaemous has been a highlight of my career, and I wanted to use this chance to highlight our combined talents.
