Usher is back on top of the charts with his latest single “Glu“, a steamy and explicit ode to his lover’s intimate fluids. The song, which features production by Lil Jon, The Avila Brothers and Sean Garrett, has reached the No. 1 spot on the R&B radio airplay chart, according to Billboard.
“Glu” is the lead single from Usher’s upcoming album “Gamma“, which is expected to drop later this year. The song marks Usher’s return to his signature R&B sound, after experimenting with different genres and styles on his previous projects.
The song has also generated a lot of buzz online, thanks to its provocative lyrics and sensual music video. Usher co-directed the video with Lori Harvey, his rumored girlfriend and model daughter of comedian Steve Harvey. The video shows Usher and Lori getting intimate in various locations, such as a pool, a car and a hotel room.
Usher explained the inspiration behind the song and the video in an interview with Vibe:
I knew she’d [Lori Harvey] never done a video before, in the formal sense. And that isn’t necessarily her most comfortable place to be. But, so long as she would allow me to be her director, I could have my first with her. You know what I’m saying? And we could go through this together. She had to trust me, and I had to trust that she could show up and do what it is that I envisioned. Just hoping that it sparks imagination for other people. If you see it, and it makes you feel some kind of way, maybe it then makes you want to have your own experience, or either this expectation, like, ‘Well honey, he did that for us. I mean, what you going to do for me?’ You know what I’m saying?
“Glu” is Usher’s 16th No. 1 hit on the R&B radio chart, and his first since 2016’s “No Limit”. The song has also reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it his 19th top 10 hit overall.
Usher is currently preparing for his Las Vegas residency at the Dolby Live, which will kick off on March 17th. Fans can expect to hear ‘Glu’ and other hits from his extensive catalog during his shows.
