British singer-songwriter Mahalia has teamed up with pop star JoJo for a new song called “Cheat“. The track is the latest single from Mahalia’s upcoming album”‘Love and Compromise“, which is set to be released on September 6th by Atlantic Records.
“Cheat” is a catchy and confident anthem about confronting a cheating partner and moving on with dignity. Mahalia and JoJo trade verses and harmonize on the chorus, singing “You can keep your cheat / I don’t need your cheat / I don’t want your cheat / I don’t need your cheat”. The song showcases both singers’ vocal abilities and charisma, as well as their chemistry as collaborators.
Mahalia said in a press release that she was thrilled to work with JoJo, whom she admired since childhood. “She is one of the main reasons why I started writing songs when I was 8 years old,” Mahalia said. “She is an icon and an incredible human being. I feel so lucky to have her voice and energy on this record.”
JoJo also expressed her admiration for Mahalia, saying “I’ve been a fan of Mahalia’s music for a while now. She has such a distinctive voice and style that I was drawn to. I love how she tells stories in her songs that are relatable but also fun. She’s a badass and I’m so excited to be a part of this project.”
“Cheat” follows the previously released singles “I Wish I Missed My Ex”, “Do Not Disturb”, “Simmer” featuring Burna Boy, and “Square 1”. The album “Love and Compromise” will also feature guest appearances from Ella Mai, Lucky Daye, Hamzaa, and Terrace Martin.
