Def Jam Recordings has signed R&B newcomer Chase Shakur, who has just released his debut single, “Sink or Swim.” Produced by Arsenio Archer and Deputy, the track contemplates the future of a relationship that seems to be experiencing some bumps.

The accompanying video was directed by Khari McCloud. “Sink or Swim” is the first taste of Shakur‘s upcoming project, It’s Not You, It’s Me, a continuation of his 2022 EP, It’ll Be Fine.

The project is described as “a mesmerizing meditation on life after a complicated relationship, in which vulnerability mingles with toughened scars, resulting in a work that situates Shakur as steely and willing to learn from his own failures.” Although no official release date has been revealed, fans can expect it to arrive later this year.
