Kiana Ledé has unveiled a brand new track, “Jealous,” featuring Grammy winner Ella Mai, in celebration of her birthday and the third anniversary of her debut album, KIKI (April 3).
Set against a slow-burning backdrop, the two stars express their frustration with the normalization of envy in relationships. Ledé and Mai are weary of being sidelined while their love interests indulge in the attention of others.
Regarding her new single, Ledé wrote in an Instagram caption, “Jealous. It’s the emotion a lot of us are scared to admit we feel because it can bring out the worst in us if you let it. So instead of actin’ crazy, just listen to this song.”
“Jealous” marks Ledé’s first new song of the year and follows her 2022 release, “Irresponsible,” produced by Cardiak and Wu10. A few days after releasing “Irresponsible,” Ledé unveiled its official video directed by Michelle Parker. Both “Jealous” and “Irresponsible” are expected to feature on Ledé’s yet-to-be-titled sophomore album, for which a release date is still unannounced.
Her upcoming album will follow the 2020 debut KIKI, which included vocal appearances from Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, Arin Ray, and 6LACK on the standard and deluxe editions. Ant Clemons and Gary Clark Jr. joined for the latter version released six months later.
Since KIKI, Ledé has collaborated with various artists, including THEY., D-Nice, Destin Conrad, and Kehlani. In July 2021, Kehlani joined Ledé on “Ur Best Friend,” which was announced as the first offering from her second album, but its inclusion on the tracklist remains unconfirmed.
Additionally, Ledé contributed to a few soundtracks, including Blade Runner: Black Lotus and The School for Good and Evil. Meanwhile, Ella Mai is currently headlining a tour promoting her sophomore album, Heart On My Sleeve.
Speaking to Rated R&B, Mai expressed her excitement about the tour: “To be able to headline my own tour and get back out to my fans and perform a body of work that’s so important to me, it’s going to be really exciting.” Heart On My Sleeve was released in May via 10 Summers/Interscope Records and featured the hit single “DFMU,” which topped R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Days before the 65th Grammy Awards, where she was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance, Mai released the deluxe edition of Heart On My Sleeve, which included three new tracks.
