A spectacular success, Rings of Power has certainly proved its worth to Prime Video, driving more subscribers to the streamer than ever before. The series had over 25 million viewers the day of release and about 100 million watching the finale. The series went back into production in October, and more details will be shared in time.
Amazon Studios head Vernon Sanders spoke about the possibility of airing the show in 2023, saying that it might be too soon. “I don’t know that I can say… It would be amazing if we could get Season 2 out within a year of Season 1’s release. It may take a smidge longer than that, but we’re doing everything we can, and we’re going to get better and faster as we go. Certainly, the production, what we’ve learned in Season 1, has taught us things that we’re applying in Season 2, and so far we set a goal for ourselves of when we want that show to be released, and we are on track and on plan.”
In a separate statement, Sanders also noted, that “since its premiere, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been bringing audiences together to experience the magic and wonder of J.R.R. Tolkien’s magnificent Middle-earth. To date, season one is the top Original series for Prime Video in every region and has been viewed by over 100 million people worldwide, a truly global hit that speaks to the universal nature of powerful storytelling. We welcome these wonderful actors to our ‘fellowship’ and look forward to telling more incredible Second Age stories in season two.”
