Regarding Captain Carter’s involvement in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hayley Atwell expresses her unvarnished opinions. In 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Atwell made her debut as Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, she has made cameo appearances in a number of subsequent Marvel movies. Peggy was so well-liked by viewers that she was able to have her own television show, Agent Carter, which lasted from 2015 to 2016 and had a total of 18 episodes.
It wasn’t until 2021 that Atwell’s character was given a new identity in the Disney+ animated Marvel series What If…? Agent Peggy Carter was transformed into Captain Carter, a British version of Captain America who wore a Union Jack-adorned outfit and shield. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a live-action Captain Carter makes her debut as a founding member of the Illuminati in a parallel dimension.
Atwell discussed her role as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an interview with Digital Spy, stating that it isn’t the adventure she envisions Peggy going on. While Captain Carter did not survive Wanda’s attack on the Illuminati, Atwell believes that Peggy might yet make a comeback to the MCU and that it is amazing to think that a character performed ten years ago still has an influence on people today. The complete statement from Atwell is below.
It was definitely not, you know, the trajectory that I see for Peggy. I would definitely like her to have more to do. It’s so funny, because, you know, I did that 10 years ago, and I love her because I love the people, and you never know [if there could be more].
