At the 2022 Soul Train Awards, Chanté Moore made a special appearance to honor her three-decade career. The renowned R&B singer sang a stirring medley of her hits. Moore began her five-minute concert with “Love’s Taken Over,” the first hit from her debut album, Precious, accompanied by a live band and dancers.
She next sang “It’s Alright,” another song from Precious, before finishing with her well-known smash “Chante’s Got a Man” from 1999’s This Moment Is Mine. The other song, which was created by James “Big Jim” Wright and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, reached its highest point at No. 2 on the Hot R&B Singles list and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is Moore’s sole RIAA-certified single and was given the gold certification in July 1999.
On September 29, Moore’s Precious turned 30. The highest positions of “Love’s Taken Over” on the Billboard Hot 100 list and the Hot R&B Singles chart are 86 and 13, respectively. On the latter list, “It’s Alright” likewise reached its high at No. 13. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album a gold certification in November 1994 for selling 500,000 copies.
Stephen Hill, Moore’s husband, posted a touching tribute about Precious on Instagram.
“Merry 30th Anniversary to the album “Precious”; @iamchantemoore debut disc,” Hill wrote on Instagram.
“An album that ya just drop the needle on and groove…and disturb that groove only to flip the record over for side B. There are very few albums you put on with ‘no-skips’. This is one. Sinewy soul sung by a songstress seducing through sound.”
