Sade, a legendary R&B artist, may be working on new songs. According to reports, the singer, whose real name is Helen Folsade Adu, went to Brad Pitt’s Miraval Studios in Correns, France to work on a new undertaking.
Actor Bradd Pitt and music producer Damien Quintard share ownership of the building. The Château Miraval, a lavish vineyard and estate that Pitt and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie purchased in 2012, includes Miraval Studios. Quintard was recruited by Pitt last year to assist with the studio’s reconstruction, and he stated in a Billboard interview that their aim was to “make a sanctuary for artists to come in and do their thing.”
Till Lindemann of the German band Rammstein and Sade, who was the first musician to utilize the facility, have already visited the studio. Quintard remarked, “You could feel the love that she and the band had for this place. When we talked to musicians who came here previously, they all have this special connection with Miraval that can’t really be explained,” he continued. “It’s a dream come true to see this place activate again.”
Although Sade hasn’t said whether or when her band will release new music, Miraval seems like a fantastic setting to conjure up something enchanted. The artist-only private studio is in a remote location about eight hours south of France, where they may create in solitude.
After starting the band Sade and putting out their debut album, Diamond Life, the vocalist gained notoriety in the 1980s. “Smooth Operator,” “No Ordinary Love,” and “Your Love is King” became incredibly well-known over the course of the following 20 years. Despite being recognized as an R&B ensemble, Sade is mostly recognized for integrating jazz music to create a fresh style that impacted the R&B we hear today. 2010 saw the release of their most recent album, Soldier of Love.
Since then Sade has remained relatively quiet — aside from the singles “Flower of the Universe” for Ava DuVernay’s Wrinkle in Time soundtrack and “The Big Unknown,” for Steve McQueen’s film, Widows. However, in 2018 Sade member Stuart Matthewman said they had written “a bunch of songs” for an upcoming album. As reported by Pitchfork, Matthewman said, “[Sade’s] not interested in the fame or any of that stuff. She likes to put out art. So when it’s ready it will come out.”
We might not have to wait too long to see what they’ve been working on after their visit at Miraval Studios.
