“Stand Up” is a brand-new song by Jazmine Sullivan. The song is Sullivan’s first single since her 2021 album Heaux Tales, which won Best R&B Album at this year’s Grammy Awards, and it appears on the soundtrack to Oscar contender Till.
The biopic Till is based on the real-life experiences of Mamie Till-Mobley, Emmett Till’s mother. The film’s principal actress, Danielle Deadwyler, plays a mother who fights for justice for her teenage son who was brutally lynched in Mississippi in 1955 and subsequently rose to prominence in the civil rights movement. As Sullivan sings, her lyrics depict that journey “Get up and keep forward. See, don’t back away with your hand up. ‘Cause somebody needs you to stand up.”
By October 14, Till will be available in cinemas. Sullivan released a deluxe edition in February that included 10 brand-new tracks.
