At their first-ever Aotearoa headlining concert this spring, Los Angeles’ sophisticated neo-soul group Moonchild will beam into Tmaki Makaurau’s The Tuning Fork to celebrate the release of their new album Starfruit.
The multi-instrumental trio of Amber Navran, Andris Mattson, and Max Bryk was originally scheduled to play in this country in 2020 before the pandemic disrupted everyone’s plans. They have worked and toured with important musicians including Kamasi Washington, Stevie Wonder, The Internet, and Jill Scott.
Their fifth studio album, Starfruit, which features guest appearances from R&B legend Lalah Hathaway, MCs Rapsody, and Ill Camille, and is out now on the prestigious UK label Tru Thoughts, is filled with beautifully silky melodies and jazz-infused late-night beats. Don’t miss Moonchild on November 15th; their breakout songs, “The List” and “Cure,” are sure to have everyone moving.
