Success is often cited as the finest form of revenge, but Joyce Wrice will need much more than a top single to exact justice on her former loves and adversaries. She would much prefer to return the favor in blood while kicking butt all day in attractive clothing, fantastic sword maneuvers, and shockingly well-pressed hair.
Joyce Wrice is still riding the high from the release of Overgrown, one of the year’s greatest R&B albums. Her momentum hasn’t slowed down since she launched “Iced Tea” in March with Kaytranada’s production assistance.
The popular video now has a set of half-anime, half-movie-style images to go with it. Ashley Bone served as creative director for the video, which was directed by Xavier Tera. It features Wrice fusing elements of her Japanese and Black cultures while dancing with a few other women in the rain. Today’s heartbroken videos lack the traditional R&B video motif of dancing in the rain. It’s wonderful to see Ray J’s “One Wish” and Usher’s “U Got It Bad” efforts being recognized and treasured.
Regardless of dancing, everyone on Wrice’s hit list should be extremely frightened.
