The Recording Industry Association of America has given Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars, and Anderson Paak, a new certification (RIAA).
An Evening with Silk Sonic, their joint album from 2021, has achieved platinum certification after selling more than one million equivalent units in the United States. The acclaimed album, which was released in November 2021, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and at the top of the Top R&B Albums chart with 104,000 equivalent copies. For two weeks, it retained the latter title.
An Evening with Silk Sonic debuted at No. 7 on Rated R&B’s list of the Top R&B Albums of 2021 before the year was out. It was “a concept CD constructed like an intimate live concert,” according to editor Keithan Samuels.
Mars and D’Mile co-produced almost all of the songs on An Evening with Silk Sonic, including the group’s breakthrough single, “Leave The Door Open,” which was made available in March 2021. A record for a duet, Silk Sonic’s breakthrough song shot up Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in just four weeks.
Additionally, it would occupy the top slot on the Hot 100 for two separate weeks. A few months later, “Leave The Door Open” exceeded sales of two million equivalent units and was awarded the 2x multi-platinum certification.
Silk Sonic would later get a ton of other honors for the Motown-inspired song, including four 2022 Grammys, including two in the major four categories (Song and Record of the Year).
A Silken Evening Other well-known hits by Sonic include “Skate,” “Smokin’ Out the Window,” and “After Last Night.” The later serenade, which is becoming increasingly popular on R&B radio, includes Thundercat and the renowned Bootsy Collins. Following in the footsteps of their popular Con Funk rendition “Love’s Train,” it is now at No. 14 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
The eagerly anticipated vinyl for An Evening With Silk Sonic will be made available through Silk Sonic on August 26. Target, Wal-Mart, and their own website all have them as three different exclusives. Barnes & Noble and Amazon will also sell the standard editions.
If Silk Sonic will win Group of the Year at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, that decision will be made public on August 28. At 8 p.m. local time, the event will air live on television, hosted by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow.
