Thuy sings over a mellow foundation of somber guitar strums and thudding drumming about taking her time to decide if this new person is the one after being duped once before in a hyped-up romance. Even if it appears to be worth it and feels perfect, she wants to be extra certain this time.

She also mentions a short film in the music video for “Playing Tricks,” which is released with the song. The “relationships, womanhood, and family” will be discussed in the Edgar Daniel-directed film.
