Solange Makes History As The First Black Woman To Write Music For The New York City Ballet

As the first Black woman to do so, Solange Knowles wrote a composition for the New York City Ballet.

The unnamed music will have its debut at the forthcoming Fall Fashion Gala of the New York City Ballet on September 28. A dancing and design-themed evening is planned for the 10th-anniversary celebration. Reisen’s global premiere will feature Solange’s musical work as the soundtrack, along with apparel designed by Alejandro Gómez Palomo for Palomo Spain. There will be debuts and additional performances.

She will perform the score again during upcoming autumn performances at Lincoln Center, including those on October 1, 8, and 11. The musical arrangement will be performed again on May 2, 2023, along with four further previews.
