Drake opened OVO Fest 2022 last week with a cast that was packed with “All Canadian North Stars.” Drake invited local legends like Keshia Chanté, K-Os, Maestro Fresh Wes, Shawn Desman, Kardinal Offishall, and others to pay homage to Canada’s R&B and hip-hop history.
Nelly Furtado, though, made a surprise appearance at the end of the evening. Furtado has kept a low profile throughout the years despite being one of the most successful Canadian musicians with 40 million records sold globally.
Drake welcomed Furtado to the stage, saying that the artist’s music has transformed his life, and urging the audience to sing loudly. The 2006 smash “Promiscuous” with Timbaland was performed by the duo before they transitioned into the Canadian classic “I’m Like a Bird.”
Finishing off the night Drake said, “This is one of the best moments of my entire life,” before honoring all the artists he brought to mark OVO Fest’s 10th anniversary.
“The streets that we walked, the restaurants we eat at, the clubs that we go to, the way that we speak, the aspirations and dreams that we have, were shaped by each and every one of these individuals for me.”
