Yuna has released Y3, the third of five capsule projects before her upcoming album Y5. It comprises three new songs, one of which has a visual accompaniment.
There are hints of lightweight R&B, with light and breezy vocals and a very simple production that works well as a foundation. The tracks on Y3 are intended for playlists aimed at people experiencing emotions on both sides of the love spectrum.
“Don’t Wanna Know,” conveys that we’ve all been there before, unable to shed obsessive sentiments for an old lover we don’t want to see go. Yuna closes her eyes and refuses to recognize a former lover’s desire to depart from what is nothing.
Yuna touched on “Risk It All” in a statement. “It’s a love song I wrote about my personal experience of having a great chemistry with someone from the first day we met, and knowing that this could really go somewhere,” she explained. “It’s about being secure in moving forward with this person and knowing you’d risk it all for this one true love.”
The last tune stated above is accompanied by a music video recorded in Malibu and directed by Yuna’s husband Adam Sinclair.
Y3 is the sequel to Y2, which was out in May 2022. The first album of the five-part series was released in March 2022. Both of the later two albums had three songs and at least one music video.
Yuna intends to release Y5 later this year. Yuna’s first real album since 2019’s Rouge, the album will be published independently. The tracks “Forevermore” and “Blank Marquee” were included on that album, which was released by Verve Forest Records.
Masego, Tyler, the Creator, G-Eazy, and many others contributed to Rouge.
