You have reached Zyah Belle’s voicemail box. On her new track “DND,” which she co-wrote with Covi, the emerging singer sets the boundaries.
Belle puts her phone on do not disturb to exercise self-care over a pulsing production enhanced with soulful hand claps. She specifically defends her peace from a man who believes he has unrestricted access to her.
“Blowing me up all the time / Starting to regret giving you my line / Now you think I’m available / To hear your bullsh*t like here he go / You don’t know how to take hints,” she sings.
“DND” is a jazzy rendition of Destiny’s Child’s “Bug a Boo,” only the pager has been replaced by a cell phone.
Of her new single, Belle says, “This song reminds me not to care too much! Living life on ‘DND’ means being carefree and always accepting of myself! It just feels good! I believe that the energy I invoke while creating can be transmuted to whoever is listening. So, whether you twerk or two-step, you can’t listen to this song and not move your body!”
Belle’s first song release since her 2021 EP, Who’s Listening Anyway, is “DND.” Temptest, ROMderful, Innanet James, AJ Claire, and Nate Curry all appear on the seven-track EP.
Belle will accompany Alex Isley on her Marigold Tour, which kicks out on August 10 in San Francisco, California. LAYA and Gwen Bunn will also accompany Isley on tour.
