Director Robert Eggers is on top of his game. He is back with a brand-new story of The Northman, or is it really that brand-new? Could this be just another Hamlet story?

This action-packed epic is certainly making a lot of noise for a film that is merely repeating the plot we are so familiar with. And to be absolutely precise, the plot does resemble Shakespeare’s Hamlet in certain aspects. Even the name of the main character is Amleth (ring a bell?). Let’s watch the trailer first.

The cast seems pretty strong, led by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, Claes Bang, and, the one guy everyone’s actually excited to see, Ethan Hawke. Dark and gloomy, the trailer gives you a taste of what’s to come. A story of a Viking whose only desire is to avenge his father’s death that happened right in front of his eyes. It is up to us to see the familiar plot trope in a new light and we’re all excited for it.
